The roots of Modern Pentathlon can be traced to the ancient Pentathlon, which included the following five disciplines: discus throw, javelin, long jump, the stadium-length race, and wrestling. The ancient Pentathlon was incorporated into the ancient Olympic Games in 708 B.C., where Lambis Lakedaimonios was crowned the first Olympic victor.

A family fun event, our version of the Modern Pentathlon Plus includes the following six disciplines: archery, air rifle, black powder rifle, pistol, rifle and trap shooting.

Each competitor fires 10 shots at each of the 6 ranges. In the event of a tie, a tie breaker shoot at the pistol range is used to determine the overall champion.

Typically most targets are not what you would normally be accustomed to shooting. They could range from balloons to Oreo cookies and aspirins.

The course of fire is as follows:

  • Rifle Range - 5 shots standing, 5 shots sitting
  • Pistol Range - 5 shots @ 25 yards, 5 shots @ 50 yards.
  • Black Powder Range - 10 shots at clanger targets
  • Archery Range - 10 shots at 3-D targets
  • Skeet & Trap Range - 10 shots at clay pigeons (trap)
  • Air Rifle - Indoors, 10 shots

Starting in 2006 is a 50/50 Novelty Match. For a $1.00 fee per shot per range, you fire a shot at a target of the range officers choosing. The person with the best score overall per range is the winner of that range. Proceeds benefit the Washtenaw Sportsman's Club Building Fund.

New in 2007 is a trial hawk and knife throw. It will be for trial only and not for score. This part of the match will concise of three each practice throws with hawk and knife and five each throws for score, you must have the hawk or knife stick in the block to score. Again you’re your score for this event will not count towards your total score.

Probationary members and prospective new members and their sponsors: this is a great opportunity and the only day of the year that you can shoot every on range and see what the club has to offer.

The cost of this day of fun is $15.00 for non-members, members are free but must show their membership card in order to shoot for free. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to pass for the Pot Luck Dinner at 5:30 PM. Family members are welcome
